Mr. Wasserstein is a Certified Financial Planner (inactive) and Registered Investment Advisor (former) who in 1996 relocated from Santa Barbara, California to Cleveland, Ohio. Upon returning, Mr. Wasserstein created the Waterstone Company (English translation of Wasserstein from German) which started as a 6 unit apartment, and 2—duplex multi-family project across from the University of Akron as well as a vacant commercial property in Cleveland. Today, the Waterstone Company owns, develops and manages all of its properties which consist of over 200+ apartment units and over 100,000 square feet of commercial class B office space.
Originally from Ohio, Mr. Wasserstein moved to Santa Barbara to become Vice-President of Operations for “O.R” Security which was then sold to North American Securities Corporation (NASC) out of Los Angeles, a subsidiary of Wagner Real Estate Company in Dallas, Texas. In 1986 Mr. Wasserstein launched his own company called “Brainworks Business Planning”, a specialized strategic and tactical planning company, which also included software implementation for his clients which were primarily real estate entrepreneurs.
During his tenure in Santa Barbara, he also: (a) was a facilitator for the MIT Business Forum (Southern & Central California region) (b) helped to create & present advanced business planning seminars at the Santa Barbara City College (c) headed the development process for the Santa Barbara Business College Advisory Committee (d) chaired the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce Small Business committee.
Mr. Wasserstein was nominated as a Best Financial Services Company for Business Digest Magazine in Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties from 1992—1994. He has received a Certificate of Appreciation for his outstanding service to the Santa Barbara business community by the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce (1989). Headed the original business planning team for the Cleveland “Project Love” program which he subsequently received an acknowledgment directly from Film Director Steven Spielberg for his participation. Received the Architectural Achievement Award from the City of South Euclid in 1994. From 2007—2010, Mr. Wasserstein received the “Certified Shaker Award”, until the city stopped offering the reward. He has had or been in featured articles in the Sun Messenger newspaper, Tri-County Business Journal and Crains magazine.
Mr. Wasserstein received his B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Toledo in 1978 and his Certified Financial Planner designation in 1986. He has 2 daughters, both graduates of The Ohio State University and lives in Pepper Pike with his wife Catherine, 2 dogs Bentley and Davy, and their cat, Sully.
